One of EAC’s greatest strengths is our deep local roots and family ownership. The Epperson family has been serving Hilton Head, Bluffton, and the surrounding areas since 1981, building a legacy of trust over decades. While our current company, E.A.C. Heating & Air, was officially founded in 2005 by Patrick Epperson Jr. (son of Pat Epperson Sr.) and partner Martin Jones (who passed away in 2024), it was created to continue the values and customer commitment of the original family business. In 2007, Pat Epperson Sr. himself joined EAC as co-owner, reuniting the family tradition of HVAC service under the EAC banner.
- Truly Local (Not a Newcomer or Franchise): EAC isn’t a branch that just moved into the area – our family has been here working with local homeowners for over 40 years. This contrasts with some competitors who only set up shop in Beaufort County within the past decade or so but imply a longer track record by citing their out-of-town origins. For example, we’ve seen new franchise-based HVAC companies open locally and advertise “20+ years in business” – when in reality those years were amassed elsewhere, not in the Lowcountry. EAC’s history, on the other hand, is authentically local. We grew up here, we live here, and we’ve continuously served this community through every Lowcountry summer and winter since the early ’80s.
- Independent & Family-Operated (Not Corporate or PE-Owned): Because EAC is independently owned and operated by the Epperson family, our priorities are aligned with our community’s needs – not dictated by distant corporate owners or private equity investors. We are not a franchise and not part of a publicly traded conglomerate. (In fact, Patrick Epperson Sr.’s original company was sold to a national HVAC corporation in the late 90s, which at one point was traded on the NYSE. That company, now known as a Service Experts branch, still uses the Epperson name in advertising – but no Epperson family members have any involvement. It’s run by a large corporate entity with out-of-state ownership.) EAC was founded specifically to get back to local family values after that corporate experience. We answer only to our customers and our conscience – not to shareholders. This means we can be more flexible, honest, and customer-focused, instead of pushing sales quotas or corporate mandates.
- Long-Term Community Commitment: Being local isn’t just a branding point for us – it defines how we do business. Our owners and staff are your neighbors. We support local charities and community organizations (choosing to give back close to home rather than to national charities) and remain deeply involved in local events and causes. Our company is an active member of the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce, the Hilton Head Area Home Builders Association, and the South Carolina HVAC Contractors Association, staying engaged with the community and industry. All of this ensures that when you do business with EAC, you’re strengthening a local business that, in turn, strengthens the local community.
- No Call Centers – Personal Service: When you call EAC, you’ll reach real people who know our area. During office hours, our polite Hilton Head Island office staff will take care of you directly. After hours (nights, weekends, holidays), we use a professional answering service – but only to ensure your call is answered promptly. One of the things Pat Epperson Sr. proudly noted when re-establishing a family firm was that all our phone lines ring locally, not at some distant corporate office. That remains true to this day. This commitment to responsiveness and personal service is something you won’t find with the big-box HVAC companies.
